Sheriff: Edward Pereira arrested with weapon

Edward Angel Pereira is the felon
who Sheriff Kuntz accompanied
to a wedding in Placerville
while Pereira was 39 and
in custody because of Kuntz
personal relationship with the
Pereira family.
On November 15, 2018 around 4:50 PM Calaveras Sheriff deputies were called to a
Valley Springs residence on Dale Drive for a reported altercation and stolen dog.

The victim told deputies, according to the press release, that she witnessed suspect Edward Pereira (45) of Campo Seco access her yard through an unlocked gate.

The suspect apparently took a white dog out of the yard and put the dog into his vehicle.  A relative of the victim happened to arrive and parked his truck behind the suspect.

Then the suspect reportedly reversed the vehicle striking the other truck an pushing it across the road, causing a neighbors mailbox to be struck and damaged.

The suspect vehicle then reportedly swerved towards both subjects and Pereira brandished a black handgun before leaving the area.

While the initial report was being taken, other CCSO deputies began checking locations for the suspect, and Edward Pereira was contacted in Campo Seco as he arrived in a vehicle matching the suspect's description.

The dog was recovered and Pereira was arrested. During the investigation a handgun was located and seized from the suspect's vehicle.

Deputies learned that this incident started with a dispute over possession and ownership of the dog.

Edward Pereira was booked into the Calaveras County Jail on charges of alleged Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Robbery, Vandalism, being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm and a Felon in Possession of Ammunition.

He is being held on $145,000 bail.
