UPDATE: Hwy 89 is now closed.
As of July 17, 2021 at 8 AM the Tamarack Fire in Markleeville is 6600 acres and has 0% containment.
The USFS has 50 firefighters on this fire. Markleeville has been evacuated and the Death Ride bicycle race has been cancelled.
This fire started apparently by lightning on July 4, 2021. For the first few days USFS just kept an eye on this fire????????

Just terrible that the Forest Service chose to monitor this fire for 13 days instead of trying to put it out.
