Fatal Accident in Sonora

  According to CHP on October 28, 2014 around 7 PM Loren Mears (49) of Sonora was driving a 2001 Jeep Wrangler eastbound on Campo Seco Road,
east of Railway Lane in Sonora at an unknown speed.

   With him were passengers Wendy Mears (50) and Loren George Mears (93) also of Sonora.

   Due to Loren Mears level of intoxication, per CHP, he made an unsafe turning movement to the right and drove the Jeep off the right shoulder where the rear of the Jeep collided with a power pole.

   The Jeep continued across the eastbound lane of Campo Seco Road and began to overturn. At this time, the right rear passenger of the Jeep was ejected.

   The Jeep continued across in a northeasterly direction and came to rest on its tires facing east
   in the westbound lane.

  As a result of this collision, the right front passenger, Wendy Mears was taken to Sonora Regional Medical Center with major injuries and the right rear passenger, 93 year old Loren George Mears sustained fatal injuries.

   The driver, Loren Mears was subsequently arrested for allegedly driving under the influence causing great bodily injury or death.

   Through a subsequent investigation, it was found that the right rear passenger of the Jeep was not wearing his vehicle restraint or seatbelt.
