Man dies at new Calaveras County Jail

UPDATE:  Information has leaked out that it is possible this prisoner was in the third day of withdrawal from something. Was no doctor allowed to attend him?

UPDATE at 3:35 PM:   We just received a changed report, indicating that the District Attorney's Office has been brought into the investigation in accordance with policies and procedures. We wonder who reminded the Sheriff of policies and procedures. He usually makes up his own!!

According to the Calaveras Sheriff's Office, who released this information at 2:30 PM December 2, 2014, on December 1, 2014 at 7:40 AM the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office began investigating an in-custody death
at the new Jail facility in San Andreas.

Correctional staff found Kelly Keel (59) of West Point unresponsive in his jail cell during a routine security check.

Mr. Keel was being housed by himself at the time of his death.  The cause of his death is unknown pending an autopsy.  There was no sign of foul play discovered during the investigation.

Keel (59) of  West Point, was arrested  at his home and booked on November 29, 2014 for alleged Infliction of Corporal Injury on a Spouse, a felony.
