The "Jungle" Homeless Camp dismantled

A nearby creek was so polluted by feces and trash, a sanitation
crew had to be called in to the area.
Over 350 people once occupied a stretch of this wooded area near homes in the Silicon Valley, called the "Jungle".

Yesterday, officials moved in and cleared
out the camp, removing people, tents, and attempting to clean up the unsanitary conditions.

In a wealthy area like the Silicon Valley, it's hard to believe a place like this exists. Some say the mortgage crisis forced them out of their homes into a camp.  Mean price for a home in the area is $700,000 and rent is over $2000 a month, if you can find one.

After the removal, pets that had been abandoned, still roamed the area. Officials are trying to find beds for the evicted residents.
