Pedestrian dies after being struck by vehicle

   According to Modesto Police, on Friday, February 13, 2015 at about 8:30 PM a 2014 Buick Regal was traveling westbound on Yosemite Avenue (Hwy 132 West) just east of Riverside Drive in Modesto.

   A pedestrian was in the roadway of Yosemite Avenue, also just east of Riverside, when they were hit. The pedestrian was not in the crosswalk.

   The driver of the vehicle immediately stopped after the collision and remained at the scene. Several citizens also stopped to provide medical assistance to the pedestrian, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

   The driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital. The vehicle involved driven by a 21 year old female resident of Turlock. 

   The deceased pedestrian was a 48 year old male resident of Los Banos. At this time there are no obvious signs of any alcohol or drug use by the driver or the pedestrian.

   It isn't known why the pedestrian was not in the marked crosswalk when the collision occurred. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of his family members.

   The cause of this collision has yet to be determined. As a standard procedure, a comprehensive collision investigation has begun and is in the early stages of the process.

   Witness statements and physical evidence at the scene will be evaluated before any collision factor or cause will be determined.
