DUI Traffic collision in Tuolumne after "Every 15 Minutes"

According to CHP on April 7, 2016 around 10:25 AM a 17-year-old male (no name provided) of Sonora was driving a 1996 Chevy southbound on MiWuk Street south of Seven Pines Road.

The driver was unable to maintain control of the vehicle and drove off the roadway, down an embankment, colliding with several trees.

The minor exited the vehicle and fled the scene of the collision with one of the passengers.

The other two passengers stayed with the vehicle until emergency personnel arrived on scene.

While Officer Lopez and Officer Dilton were investigating the collision, the driver, who had already been identified, returned to the scene.

The minor was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested for alleged felony driving under the influence and felony hit and run.

He was transported to Sonora Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries (lacerations) and released to Probation authorities.

Passenger Chelsea K. Guinn (23) of Tuolumne was transported to Sonora Regional Medical Center for moderate injuries to her ankle.

During the investigation it was determined that another passenger Laura L. Forde (25) of Tuolumne was unable to care for herself and was arrested for alleged Public Intoxication.

Joseph D. Guinn (24) of Tuolumne was identified as the other passenger who had fled the scene, and was contacted 2 hours later at a relatives home. He was uninjured.

This collision occurred after the presentation of the "Every 15 Minutes) program at Summerville High School, just a few days ago.

The CHP facilitates the program as a means to remind high school students of all ages to make the right decision when it comes to not driving while impaired, but about not drinking alcohol period.

CHP would like to remind  everyone of the dangers of impaired driving and the completely avoidable consequences drunk driving will create if one makes a fatefully wrong decision.

This is the time to provide support of the victims involved in this collision, including the driver, and to let them know we want them to make the correct decisions when it comes to alcohol consumption and impaired driving.
