Calaveras Sheriff deputy strikes motorcycle in chase

   On December 11, 2016 at approximately 11:35 PM San Andreas CHP was requested to assist the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department in pursuit of a 1986 Harley Davidson motorcycle in the West Point area of Hwy 26.

    Before the CHP was in position to assist wit the pursuit, the Harley turned onto a private mud covered dirt road at 395 Stanley Road.

   The rider, Carlos Nunez, lost control of the Harley after traveling through a large area of deep mud and the left side of the Harley impacted the roadway.

   Nunez was ejected from the motorcycle and suffered moderate injuries to hiss lower extremities.  A Calaveras Sheriff's  vehicle, a 2015 Ford  driven by Corporal Serpa was unable to stop due to the muddy condition of the irt road and he hit the Harley, resulting in minor damage to both vehicles.

   Nunez was not affected by this collision, per the report. He was transported by ground ambulance to Mark Twain Medical Center and arrested for suspected driving under the influence of drugs, along with charges related to failing to yield to the Sheriff's Department vehicle.
