Major injuries in Hwy 12 collision

According to a CHP report on December 19, 2016 around 5:30 PM Olivia Fowler (18) of Wallace was driving a 2005 Honda Civic westbound on Hwy 12 approaching Southworth Road and at unknown speed.

Michelle DavisScott (48) of Sacramento was driving a 2007 Mercedes westbound on Hwy 12, also approaching Southworth Road, directly ahead of Fowler, and was slowing due to stopped traffic ahead.

Vincent Butera (57) of Valley Springs was driving a 1972 Chevrolet El Camino eastbound on Hwy 12 approaching Southworth Road at approximately 55 MPH.

Fowler failed to stop the Honda in time and the front of the Civic collided with the rear of the Mercedes.

The force of the impact caused the Honda to spin out of control and into the eastbound traffic lane directly into the path of the Chevy.

As a result the front of the Chevy collided with the left side of the Honda. Fowler was transported to Modesto Memorial with major injuries.

Butera was transported to Mark Twain Medical and treated for minor injuries.  DavisScott was not injured.

Alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this collision. Hwy 12 was closed for approximately one hour at the location and the collision is still under investigation.
