Pedestrian struck on Hwy 4

Per CHP on April 24, 2017 at approximately 4:10 AM Robert Hamilton (63) of Murphys, was stopped on Hwy 4 after colliding with a deer, parking his vehicle on Hwy 4 in the westbound traffic lane. He left his vehicle to search for the deer and remove it from the roadway if needed.

When he located the deer, an uninvolved motorist began speaking with the driver of the other car.

Tirrel Butler (46) of Stockton was driving a 2002 Mercedes on Hwy 4 and had slowed, seeing the other vehicles. As he began to pass due to the  oncoming headlights he was unable to clearly see Mr. Hamilton and struck him as he was standing on the double yellow lines.

Mr. Hamilton suffered major injuries and was taken to Mark Twain Hospital for treatment.

Seems like if you hit a deer, stay in the car and call 911.
