Get a big container of cayenne pepper and spread it generously around the place you want to keep them
from and you will likely find them avoiding crossing that line.
You will have to refresh it from time to time, but it seems to work. One sniff and they will know there is nothing good to eat there.

I was told that soaking a rag in ammonia and putting it outside also works. If you can stand the stink, lol.
