Dear Sentinel:
It has always shocked me when I hear that a man has lied about his military service. The first time I was aware of it was after the Viet Nam War, when a man I was engaged to told a friend of his that he had been in Viet Nam on secret missions, when I knew he never got closer than West Germany.
Not long after that I broke up with him because of other lies I found out about, so I don't know if he ever got caught lying about Viet Nam.
Now I read that the head of Veterans Services lied about his military service, that members of the press lied about their service, like Brian Williams and Bill O'Reilly. Why?
Is it a macho thing that they think they have to compete with other men about how much of a man they are? Is it because they think it impresses women? I just don't get it.
There should be a law that punishes these people for misrepresenting something so important as war and military matters.
I'm just sayin'!

I hope they don't start passing laws on what you can and can't lie about,maybe the fire in a theatre scenario laws are needed but lying about military service is pretty tasteless,but common and harmless...and really.. Why would you want anyone one to think that you have served in combat,and have a good chance of having ptsd?
