Citizens catch and hold burglar in Murphys

  On July 22, 2016, according to a Sheriff's Press Release, Calaveras County deputies received a report of a burglary in progress on the 1800 block of French Gulch Road in Murphys.

   The burglary was interrupted by the homeowner and the suspect fled on foot. While deputies were responding to the area, Sheriff's dispatch received numerous calls from citizens giving updates on the suspects' location.

   Citizens detained the suspect until deputies arrived at the scene.  The suspect was identified as Joseph Michael Morgali (26) of San Jose.

   Citizens reported additional items stolen from nearby residences. The suspect dropped one of the allegedly stolen items as he fled.

   A backpack was found to have additional alleged likely stolen items.  During questioning Morgali told deputies he was in the area for marijuana cultivation.

   Morgali was booked into the Calaveras County Jail on charges of alleged Burglary and Possession of Stolen Property. He bail is set at $45,000.
