Pete Voinich Passes Away at Age 102

Pete Voinich died May 20, 2012 at Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital in San Andreas at the age of 102. He had resided in Angels Camp all of his life.
Born to Yugoslavian emigrants Paul and Anne Voinich in 1910 in Angels Camp, he even lived on the same block all of his life; first with his parents, then with his wife Jessie 2 doors down, and then built a home in between the two former homes in 1954, where he lived until 10 months ago, when he went to Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital.
Pete worked for a short time in a local gold mine, then worked as a logger for Doc Linebaugh in White Pines. He served in the Navy during WWII, on the Rudyard Bay, a flat top carrier.
When he came home, he continued to work for Linebaugh, logging until he retired in the 70's because of hearing loss. He continued to cut and sell firewood until he was 90.
Pete married Jessie, his wife, in 1942, and they had one daughter Jeanie. Pete also helped raise and loved Jessie's six children by a previous marriage.
Pete enjoyed hunting, mining and woodcutting, teaching his grandchildren these outdoor pastimes. He enjoyed  being Grandpa Pete to many friends and their children.
He was cared for at home by his Grandson Glen John for the past 18 years.
Pete was preceded in death by his wife Jessie and stepchildren Bill Brower, Robert Brower, Olive Wells, Nancy Moss, Patty Hall and several Grandchildren and friends.
He is survived by his daughter Jeanie Johnson, stepsons Tom Brower and Jess Brower and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
His will be missed by his family and many friends. In remembrance of Pete, please visit your elders often and bring a smile to someone you love.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday May 3o, 2012 at 11 AM at Foothill Community Church in Angels Camp.
Private interment will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Altaville. Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
