Stop the Bloodsuckers!!

You should see how brainwashed Lisa Boulton appears to be about taking (bloodsucking) from those who work hard, to give to those who campaign (for certain candidates). She doesn't get it!

To believe that increasing the TOT tax on everyone who owns a lodging business is a good thing is like believing that all government is only there so that they can SUCK MORE BLOOD out of what has become a very lean TURNIP! (the taxpayers!)

The Visitors Bureau does not hire business people to run the organization like a business. They hire puppets that do what they are told and who actually believe that they are HELPING the COUNTY!!

NO new Transient Occupancy Tax. Make those few non-profits who are getting paid back for their campaigning go out and fundraise (WORK?) for their own money.

STOP the CORRUPTION!   VOTE NO!  Vote against any candidate who says they are in favor of this new bloodsucking of the taxpayers!!   No more TOT tax!

The WORST BLOODSUCKER turns out to be the Visitors Bureau as they are teaming up with CBC to place an additional tax burden on their own members, some of whom oppose it: members that are responsible for the bulk of their funding.

Your sense of values have to be seriously screwed up to turn on your own members like this. Someone needs to do something about replacing the Visitors Bureau with people who represent all of their members rather than looking out for their own self serving interests.

We need a new organization that truly cares about our industry, not has personal interests politically.

are there really people so stupid in calaveras that they will vote for something like this?

Say No to the Transient Occupancy Tax--we taxpayers are being taxed to death. Our country was founded on starting a business, working hard and making a living. Now with all the hidden (fees)--just another word for taxes, businesses are leaving the state or going out of business. When are we the American people going to wake up---No More Taxes

I want to know if Debbie Ponte's hotel pays TOT tax. It should.

You're right. Hotels account for less than 10% of money from tourism. If ALL other tourist businesses (like wineries) paid T.O.T., we would collect 10 times as much T.O.T. Maybe it's hard to collect from all but let's say HALF. That would mean 5 times as much T.O.T. and there wouldn't have to be an increase in T.O.T. In fact, the rate could be DROPPED to 5% and we would still collect more money. Now THAT'S truly a NO-BRAINER!

Yeah, but expanding the T.O.T. to other businesses would take a real effort. It's easier just to keep on targetting the Cash Cow - the Lodging Facilities. Even if some of them protest no one is going to pay any attention to them. They can't compete against the combined voices of the non-profits Coalition.

One thing you can say about the Calaveras Visitors Bureau. They either screen or indoctinate their Executive Directors well. Not only do they all conform to the party line but they all actually appear to believe the party line which revolves around the delusional belief that CVB is Vital to the welfare of the County and is thus Entitled to place a TAX burden on their Lodging Members. Oh wait! They get the money even from Lodging facilities that AREN'T members! How great is that!!

They get TOT money from hotels and the hotels dont get anything from the visitors bureau unless they also pay a membership fee? How do they justify that? And how come the county that hands over the money allows this?
