Twain Harte man dies in freak collision

UPDATE:  The Twain Harte man who lost his life in this tragedy was Duane F. Smith (69).

According to CHP at 10:25 AM this morning, October 14, 2015 the driver of a Jeep Wrangler was outside his vehicle on his driveway
at Lizzie Lane in Twain Harte.

The Jeep was in neutral and the parking brake was not engaged and the Jeep began to roll backwards down the driveway, with the man hanging onto the driver side door.

The Jeep backed across Lizzie Lane and onto the dirt shoulder on the other side, with the driver still hanging onto the door.

The Jeep then collided with a large boulder and a PG&E transformer, causing fatal injuries to the driver.

PG&E responded to the scene and cut off the power causing a power outage while a crew repaired the damage.

The driver of the Jeep, whose name has not yet been released, was taken to Sonora Regional Medical Center, but could not be saved.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this freak collision.
