Head-on crash on Hwy 120--Official CHP report

We can't remember when 5 people died at one time in a traffic collision on any roadway in the Mother Lode area.

CHP just released the official report
of the 5 who died in the head-on crash that turned into an inferno on Hwy 120 near Groveland on Saturday, October 24, 2015:

On Saturday, November 24, 2015 around 6:30 PM Marcos Lopez Martinez (22) of Groveland was driving a 2012 Nissan Maxima northbound on Hwy 120 east of Smith Station Road.

An as yet unidentified woman was driving northbound on Hwy 120 in a 2012 Mercedes.

For an unknown reason the two vehicles collided head-on, causing Martinez to be declared deceased at the scene.

His passenger, Sasha Magana (22) of Merced was flown to Modesto Memorial Hospital with major injuries.

The driver of the Mercedes and three of the passengers all perished at the scene, when a fire overwhelmed the vehicle.  One other passenger, Jeongsoo Yang of Saratoga, was flown to Doctors Hospital in Modesto with major injuries.

A small grass fire was quickly extinguished by Cal Fire crews. Drugs and or alcohol have not been ruled out as a cause of this collision.

The names of the other 4 deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. CHP requests that if anyone witnessed this collision that they contact their office 209-984-3944, Officer Griefer.
