Bruce Jerry Douglas of Dorrington

    Bruce Jerry Douglas passed away at his home in Dorrington on October 21, 2015, surrounded by family and friends.


   Bruce was born November 17, 1933 in St. Paul, Minnesota and spent his childhood years in St. Paul, and in El Cerrito and Chico, California.

   He graduated from Chico High School and attended Butte College; he was also a proud Marine who served in the First Marine Division during the Korean Conflict.

   His life work was a telecommunications technician with Western Electric/AT&T/ and Lucent.

   Bruce was a 10 year member of the Calaveras County Search and Rescue Team and was a Lifetime Achievement Award recipient from the unit.

   In his earlier years he was an avid motorcycle racer and hunter.  He enjoyed fishing, skiing and snowmobiling.  He hiked 1300 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail with his wife, Jeanie as she completed the trail.

   The passion of his life was sailing. He and his wife sailed their boat to Mexico for a year's adventure and also sailed their boats in the Pacific Northwest several times.

   He was preceded in death by his mother, Marcella Chalmers, and stepfather Bill Chalmers.

   He is survived by his wife Jeanie; son Jerry Douglas (Laura); daughters Stephanie Douglas and Sherri Douglas; stepsons Mike Gibson (Kim) and Matt Gibson (Kim).

   He leaves 6 grandchildren who he adored; Desiree Kyrsti, and J.P. Douglas and Clint, Bobbi and Nick Gibson.

   A Celebration of Life will be held at Chapel in the Pines in Arnold on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 1 PM.

   Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
