Letter to the Editor....About suicide rate

   Dear Editor:

I am writing to you because I'm afraid other papers won't like what I'm writing.

My wife and I are appalled at the suicide rate due to and since the Butte Fire in Calaveras County. What is the number now, 7???

Simply, we want to know why the county is ignoring the pleas of those who lost everything and doing nothing to even comfort these people.

We are sick of it and think heads should roll, beginning at the top.  The Mental Health department seems to be doing nothing either.

When you get to a certain age, starting all over is difficult, if not impossible, you freaks! Help them!!!

Very sorry to hear that and for your loss of a friend. I agree there hasn't been any public outreach to people who lost so much in the fire. Maybe your message will stimulate some action.

I do hope you write to the local papers too.

This is so true. We are also sick about these losses. Not everyone can handle losing EVERYTHING!

I hadn't heard. So sad. Are they trying to hide this from the public?

From what I've been told, the county is making it almost impossible for those who aren't rich to come back.

I think you're right about that. Forget the other papers. I don't think any of them will print anyone's letter without fully identifying themselves.
