How there can be any taxes assessed at all on property destroyed by the Butte Fire is beyond us, but Calaveras Assessor Leslie Davis has sent out a notice to those owners who MAY qualify to have their taxes deferred while the property is reassessed.
There are tons of rules
and maybe's and if's, ands, and butts so good luck. If your taxes, for example, were collected in an impound account, you don't qualify. Huh???
If you haven't received your notice (and we know that many do not even have a proper mailing address), call the Assessors Office at 754-6356 (209).

It seems to me that the county is getting all their losses back, but not the poor homeowners out there.
