Betty Wheeler of San Andreas

   Betty Lucille (Rhodes) Wheeler was born on August 23, 1932 in Marquand, Missouri to David Ross Rhodes and Besssie Leila (Smith) Rhodes, the youngest of 10 siblings.

   She passed away on February 15, 2016 from heart conditions and colorectal cancer in San Andreas.

   Married to William L. Wheeler for 53 years, she had lived in San Andreas for the last 15 years.  Prior to that residences included were in Nipomo and Lakewood.

   She was a homemaker for her entire married life, enjoyed cooking, gardening and animal husbandry, as well as fishing with her family.

   She was also an active life member in the San Andreas Ladies Auxiliary for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2600.

   She was preceded in death by her parents David Rhodes and Bessie Smith Rhodes, as well as 8 of her siblings, Ethel Smagala, Grace McGinnity, Gene Rhodes, Mildred Sullivan, Mary Berry, William Rhodes, Charles Rhodes and Harold Rhodes.

   She is survived by her husband William Wheeler of San Andreas, son John Wheeler and his wife Theresa Wheeler and grandchildren Alyssa and Nathan Wheeler all of Redding, and one sister, Melva Hageman of Des Peres, Missouri, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

   After cremation, her remains will be encapsulated at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Redding.

   Her family is planning a celebration of life memorial dinner to be announced.

   Donations may be made in her honor to the San Andreas VFW Post 2600, American Cancer Society or Calaveras County Animal Control.

   San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
