Evading a Peace Officer Arrest allegation on Murphys Grade Road

   According to Angels Camp Police, on November 3, 2016 they arrested Christopher Thomas Benters (40) of Angels Camp on the Murphys Grade Road, just outside of town.

  After attempting to make a traffic stop
for unsafe at approximately 3:35 PM, the 1995 Jeep Cherokee, driven by Benters, refused to stop and a pursuit ensued at speeds up to 100 MPH .

   Benters fled east on Murphys Grade Road and attempted to turn into a driveway in the 3000 block, missing the driveway and driving through some bushes, then striking a large tree.

     Benters was then taken into custody without incident and booked into the Calaveras County Jail after being checked for injuries at Mark Twain Hospital, for allegedly Evading a Peace Officer with Disregard for Pubic Safety, Possession of Marijuana for Sale and the Sale of Marijuana, all felonies and for Driving with a Suspended License, a misdemeanor.

   Benters apparently admitted to having a container of marijuana (approximately 1 pound) during a search of his vehicle.
