On August 1, 2019 around 1:45 PM, according to the CHP report, Lana McCartney (68) of Mokelumne Hill was driving a 2017
GMC on Hwy 49 before coming to a stop at the stop sign at Hwy 12 and 49.
McCartney then entered Hwy 12 in front of James McArthuer (30) of Valley Springs, who had 2 passengers in his 2003 Honda.
The GMC collided with the side of the Honda, pushing the Honda over into the path of the third vehicle, a 2004 Toyota driven by Hannah Lumbus (22) of Valley Springs.
James McArthuer was transported to Mark Twain Hospital with minor injuries. Jason Nunez (8) of Valley Springs, a passenger of McArthuers, was airlifted to UC Davis with major injuries.
The other two involved were not injured. Alcohol and or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision at this time, per CHP.
