Assemblyman Fran Bigelow today responded to Governor Jerry Brown's 2013 State of the State Address.
Bigelow indicated that he looks forward to working across party lines to make job creation a top priority in Sacramento in addition to making higher education more affordable.
"I stand ready to work with Governor Brown and the majority party to ensure Sacramento focuses its effort on private sector job creation.
Those efforts will result in more Californians earning a living and in turn, less demand for social services, Bigelow said.
"With more Californians being put back to work Sacramento will be able to focus on core government services like education and public safety.
I'm committed to making sure we put Californians back to work."
Bigelow also said that he was pleased to hear the Governor talk about investing in higher education, noting that working Californians clearly expect Sacramento to use the $50 billion in new revenue from Proposition 30 to protect public education from future funding cuts and prevent tuition increases at state colleges and universities.
The Assemblyman noted that he has already co-authored legislation to help college students, including Assembly Bill 67 (Gorell) which would freeze tuition at public colleges and universities for the duration of the voter-approved tax increases.
"I'm optimistic about the bipartisan opportunities Republicans may have to work on pro-jobs legislation that will keep more jobs in California and attract future investment to our great state," Bigelow said.
Bigelow was further encouraged by the Governor's call for CEQA reform which will help expand job growth in our local communities.
"It is encouraging to hear the Governor acknowledge that overregulation is killing jobs, but we have to make sure that we all come together to address this issue and make sure that all Californians can find work in their local communities."

Assembly Member Bigelow R-O'Neals, represents the Fifth Assembly District in the California Legislature, which includes Placer, El Dorado, Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, Tuolumne, Mariposa, Madera and Mono Counties.

Gov. Brown gave a state of the state address? When? How did I miss it? Must not have been well publicized?
