Number of Hwy fatalities rose in 2012

Fatalities on the nation's highways rose 5.3% last year, to 34,080, according to the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Association).

They feel that two reasons have brought about the increase, the economy getting better brings more discretionary driving, and motorcycle helmet laws have been relaxed.

   5000 motorcyclists died in 2012, up 9%.
