Why Do you Shop at Copper Town Square?

We all know that the economy in Calaveras County is lousy. And that goes for every corner
of the county, including Copper Town Square.

Have you been to the Snap's Coffee Shop lately?  What a lively little place, where a young couple has taken a business with problems and built it up, trying to succeed in a down economy.

We are doing an investigative series of articles on the Castle and Cooke, and therefore Dave Haley influence on Copperopolis, its residents and businessowners.

Most of the opinions we've heard are very negative and we have requested comments from Castle and Cooke at Dave Haley's level, at Bruce Freeman's level and at David Murdoch's level.

We have yet to get a response from them, and therefore we will let you know what we have discovered so far.

In the meantime, you can get great coffee and hear all the latest scoop about Copper at Snaps.

   Stay tuned, folks!

I LOVE the shops in The Square! FAB ice cream, nail salon, pet supplies, kitchen, olive oil and gift shops. New woman's boutique opening today with many specials at FLOURISH!

Interesting you are doing an investigative report on Castle and Cooke. The Sentinel has never warmed up to this group and those who they employ.
I too would be very hesitant to answer any of the Sentinel's questions if I were Castle and Cooke. They could think they are being set up for failure. Baiting.
The Sentinel is a fun blog. Good articles. Good citizenry. Good place to voice an opinion and cross your fingers it gets published.
But the Sentinel is far from being an unbiased piece of journalism. And there's nothing wrong with that. The publisher has every right to edit their paper as they feel. But they also must realize they reap what they sow.
I could be wrong! And I hope I am.
BTW: On one hand, I've worked on Castle and Cooke projects as an independent construction material supplier On the other, I've had concerns and have questioned other C&C projects and plans. I live in Copper Cove. And am reluctantly a homeowner/member of the CCLTOA. Ahhhhh...gotta love our Board of Directors! This board was and is very proud of chasing Castle and Cooke out of one their open monthly meetings. So proud of this feat, they have no problem bragging to anyone who will listen. It is so reassuring to have such an open minded elected group conducting a public forum available to the residents and businesses. And, I can hear the board now…”If you think you can do better, run for Director.” And “We don’t get paid for this and we have day time jobs and are just as busy as you.” They must have missed the Director’s job description before throwing their hats into the political ring!
Anyway, try the other fine eatery’s in Copper Towne. Cruisers, Panini’s, and Griffs!
Good luck on your report. It should be great reading!

Yes, it is true that Mr. Haley and Castle and Cooke demand that publications only print what they want. I know how Haley has refused to respond to the Sierra Sentinel because the Sierra Sentinel takes the side of the residents and cannot be bought, like other sites and publications. That's why i like the Sierra Sentinel. Haley probably treats his lessees like s***!!

Dave Haley has no respect for homeowners, lessees, or the law. What do you expect from an uneducated, unethical person whose own Saddle Creek home was forced into a short sale, and on which property taxes hadn't been paid for years. Does that make sense for a 15-year employee of Castle & Cooke as Calaveras Division Manager and Vice-President of Development? Apparently, he manages his personal finances as poorly as Castle & Cooke's projects.

Mr. Haley can be a hard nose doing his job? Have some feelings been hurt? Uneducated? Zero schooling? Please explain.
And short sale? On Zillow, in the 95228 zip code, for the past 2-1/2 years, there have been 510 short sales. That's about 17 a month. I guess there are a few uneducated and unethical folks who manage their finances poorly in Copperopolis. Or maybe they were caught upside down on their home investment. Happens. Ask my sister.
Well, I’m not here to defend Mr. Haley or Castle and Cooke. But I find there are mean spirited folks in the community who love wading through another’s grief and who find the art of compromise very elusive.

on the last comment, are you defending castle and cooke, or mr. haley? Personally, shouldn't a C&C executive stay in a home he bought from his own company? Not a very good advertisement for C&C. To not live in the C&C area at all is a concern. Isn't he on all their homeowner boards and such?

On the last comment...RE: the comment above that one...lol!
You ask who they are defending?..HUH?
Please read the third paragraph which begins.."Well, I’m not here to defend Mr. Haley or Castle and Cooke.."
Continue reading after that and you'll find yourself as an example of what they speak...

You are missing the point. This nan continues to promote big growth in this small town in spite of the fact it did not work the first time. Dave let hus home in copper in order to retain his home in Murphy's..... Now that speaks volumes!!

We are one one his lessees, and it is fact that he does treat most everyone here like sh** for sure, at least the lessees that will even converse with the man. He's definitely not the type of personality to manage this beautiful square nor to lease space to interested parties.. Rumor had it that the Square is just a write off for Castle & Cooke, hence the fact that they just don't care!

I can tell you that I know of NO ONE that has ANY RESPECT for Dave Haley or has a kind word about him in the Town Square, Saddle Creek or anywhere in Copper. He is a pompas, arrogant, self-important ass, and why a huge corporation like Castle & Cooke hasn't cut this obnoxious man loose is an absolute mystery to many!
