Stolen vehicle crashes in Wallace

On June 9, 2015 around 2 PM Andrew Taormina (25) of Lodi was driving a 2014 Toyota that had been reported stolen as a car-jacking in Angels Camp, through Wallace at a high rate of speed.

As the suspect Taormina continued to drive at an estimated speed of approximately 90 MPH, he entered a left hand curve in the roadway and due to his speed he was unable to negotiate the curve.

Taormina traveled off the north side of the roadway where it struck two utility poles, four pine trees and two oleander bushes.

During the collision, the suspect overturned the Toyota and it came to rest on its roof on the north shoulder of Hwy 12, east of Wards Avenue.

Calaveras Sheriff's deputies continued westbound and encountered the vehicle at its point of rest.  The deputy observed Taormino attempting to exit the Toyota and flee and took him into custody without further incident.

Angels Camp Police also responded to the scene and took custody of Taormino and he was transported to Mark Twain Hospital and then booked into the Calaveras County Jail.
