According to the CHP report, on June 1, 2015 around 4:30 PM Richard Castillo (35) of Camp Connell was driving a 1995 Honda Accord eastbound on Hwy 4 east of Lakemont Drive at an unknown speed.
For an unknown reason, Castillo allowed the Honda to drift over the double yellow lines, directly into the path of a USFS truck driven by David Vosti.
Castillo swerved to the right as Vosti swerved to the left. However, neither party was able to avoid the collision. The USFS truck struck the drivers side of the Accord.
After the collision, Castillo fled the scene without exchanging information or providing a statement. the passengers in the Honda, Ashley Snider (26) of Camp Connell and Joseph Bleak (8) of Camp Connell were transported to Sonora Regional Medical Center by the Ebbetts Pass Fire Department with mild to moderate injuries.
Vosti and Eric Vane (29) of Flagstaff, Arizona (his passenger), remained on scene, but denied injury. One-way traffic control was in place for approximately 30 minutes.
