According to a Cal Fire report, on July 11, 2015 around 4 PM they responded to a fire at the SPI lumber mill in the 14000 block of Perri Cone Road in Chinese Camp.
Eight engines, along with Columbia Air Attack assisted in battling this fire, in addition to several local engine crews from Calaveras County.
The cause of the fire was a cutting torch. Damage was estimated at $50,000, to the SPI breakroom, a debarker and the millwright building. They remained on scene until around 10:10 PM. PG& E was notified.
