Major injuries to child in Angels Camp crash

According to CHP on August 2, 2016 around 6:20 PM Tyler Nichols (31) of Jackson was driving a 2003 Saturn Ion southbound on Riata Way approaching Tapadero Street at approximately 30 MPH.

He entered into a left hand curve
in the roadway and failed to negotiate the curve, traveling off the right side of the roadway onto the dirt/gravel shoulder.

Nichols attempted to regain control of the vehicle by turning sharply to the left, which caused the car to rotate in a counter-clockwise direction.

The car traveled across the road and onto the east shoulder where the right rear of the car struck a large tree.

As a result of the collision Mr. Nichols sustained minor injuries and was flown to Modesto Memorial Hospital.

His 4 year old passenger Jace Nichols sustained major injuries and was flown to UC Davis Medical Center.

Mr. Nichols was later arrested on suspicion of alleged DUI collision resulting in major injuries to another person and child endangerment.
