CHP report on Hwy 49 crash

   According to a CHP report on September 6, 2016 around 1 AM Bobby Kelly (21) of Sonora was driving a 1985 Chevy El Camino on Hwy 49 south of Red Hill Road outside Angels Camp at approximately 40 MPH.


   Kelly entered into a left hand curve in the road and failed to negotiate the curve, traveled off the right side of the road onto the dirt/gravel shoulder, then traveled down the embankment and overturned.

   As the Chevy was overturning, his passenger Mark Ramirez (18) of Sonora was ejected out of the car, which came to rest on it's roof 100' down the embankment.

   Kelly was trapped inside the car for several hours before he was able to free himself and climb the embankment to alert a passing motorist of the collision.

   Kelly was flown by air ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto with moderate injuries. He was later arrested, per the report for suspicion of DUI resulting in major injuries to another person and driving with a suspended license.

   Ramirez was flown to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto  with major injuries.
