Major injuries in Hwy 4 motorcycle crash

On October 7, 2016 according to CHP Shawn Westburg (45) of Copperopolis was driving a 2001 GMC northbound on Horseshoe Lane and was stopped at the intersection with Hwy 4 in Copperopolis.

Ethan Gibson (21) of Valley Springs was driving a Harley Davidson motorcycle in the eastbound lane of Hwy 4 at approximately 65 MPH.

Westberg proceeded to turn right onto eastbound Hwy 4 without yielding to the Harley Davidson, which was close enough to constitute a hazard.

Gibson attempted to avoid the Chevy by applying his brakes forcefully, but was unable to do so.  Gibson lost control of the Harley which overturned, fully ejecting Gibson.

After the collision the vehicles were moved to the right shoulder to facilitate the flow of traffic. Alcohol and/or drugs are not a factor in this collision.

Gibson was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with major injuries.
