Hwy 99 closed due to truck fire fatality

UPDATE:  Both southbound lanes of Hwy 99 are now re-open as of 2:30 PM.

UPDATE:  At least one lane of Hwy 99 southbound has apparently reopened.  There is a report that the CHP office
was affected by the gas spill. Hazmat will check and reopen when safe.

   UPDATE:  Several Stockton CHP units have been sent to the area to assist in this massive
collision and fire.

UPDATE:  This collision occurred at around 10 AM and the fire spread to other vehicles.  Applegate offramp will be closed
indefinitely due to extensive damage.

  UPDATE:  This was apparently a gas tanker. A nearby McDonalds reportedly caught on fire
due to this collision.

 May 23, 2017 at 12:30 PM:  Hwy 99 southbound is closed at Atwater due to a major truck rollover and fire that killed one and is blocking the roadway.

   CHP has not indicated how long before the freeway will reopen, so avoid the area if possible.
