CHP reports Hwy 49 accident possibly alcohol caused

On May 18, 2013, CHP reports that A. Charlesworth (72) of Wilton, was driving his 2003 Ford pickup northbound
on Hwy 49 in the area of Union Mine Road in San Andreas, when he allowed his vehicle to run off the east edge of the road.

Mr. Charlesworth hit an embankment and turned sharply to his left, causing his vehicle to turn out of control and cross both traffic lanes and run off the west side of the road.

Mr. Charlesworth traveled down an embankment, through a wire fence and overturned, coming to rest on its roof.

CHP believes alcohol consumption may have contributed to the collision, and Charles worth may face criminal charges for driving under the influence.  He was transported to Mark Twain Hospital with moderate injuries.
