Medical Examiner consultant testifies to Trayvon Martins gunshot

July 9, 2013 Zimmerman trial:   In testifying for the defense, this Medical Examiner consultant Dr. De Mayo is testifying that it is  his opinion that the gunshot was a contact shot against the clothing.

The wound in the chest was a circular punched out wound with powder tattooing which causes a powder mark and a reddish mark around the wound.

He believes the muzzle of the gun was 2-4 inches away from the body at the time it was fired. This man said he has to use LIVE animals in his testing.

This man also says that Zimmerman shot Martin with the gun in his right hand. Zimmerman is left handed.

He is now saying Martin could have been able to move for 10 to 15 seconds. He was hit in the heart, and another hole into the lung.

If he was engaged in a struggle, his heart was beating hard (100 times a minute) and he loses blood every time the heart beats, within a minute, he loses 25% of his blood supply.

He would have been dead within about 3 minutes more than likely. He believes he was not conscious for long before he died.

He has heard of people able to move after being shot in the heart. Now the defense is saying that he was able to move his hands from an outstretched position to under his body.
