Calaveras Sheriff--More details on Attempted Murder

   On June 5, 2015 at around 7 AM the Calaveras Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an assault on the 23000 block on Hwy 26 in West Point.

   Deputies arrived on scene and observed a 19 year old male who had sustained defensive injuries in an attempt to protect himself from a knife attack.

   Suspect Michael Mendibles, per the Sheriff, was allegedly intoxicated when he confronted the victim, made several threats and attempted to stab the victim.

   The victim was able to wrestle the knives away from Michael Mendibles, who then left the area and later returned with a bow and arrow.

     Mendibles was attempting to draw the bow when the victim,escaped through a window.  The victim, who had received minor injuries as a result of the attack,  notified the Sheriff's Department.

   Suspect Mendibles was placed under arrest for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and battery; bail was set at $510,000, according to the Sheriff.

   The investigation into the stabbing and motive is ongoing.
