CCWD lowers cutback requirements

Calaveras County Water District (CCWD) has issued a press release, indicating that less of a cutback in water usage is now required for its ratepayers.

Per the press release, the percentage cutback
required is now 16% instead of the 32% the state originally required.  Per the District, they were able to remove non-revenue water from the equation; such as theft, leaks, line flushing and other variables.

The CCWD Board is going to consider revising their drought restrictions.  We will let you know
what they decide to do.

Line flushing was brought before the CCWD board during public comment, last meeting. Property owners can not water their lawns, but CCWD can flush fire hydrant water down the street. That makes a whole lot of sense. CCWD pays the local fire department to flush the system. If the hydrant is closed to fast it causes water hammering which causes CCWD lines to break, causing a major leak in the road and water hammering can break lines in houses.
