Man on Fire at Mark Twain Hospital

   According to the Calaveras Sheriff on June 13, 2015 at around 3:30 PM a deputy responded to Mark Twain Hospital in San Andreas for a male subject who deliberately set himself on fire.

   According to the press release, deputies arrived on scene and observed a gas can and smoke in the area.

   Deputies contacted Mark Twain staff who advised the 34 year old male had already been moved to the emergency room and was being treated for his injuries.

   Deputies learned through witnesses and a surveillance video that the subject had taped a lighter to his hand, poured gas onto himself and set himself on fire.

   while the subject was on fire, he ran into the hospital which temporarily set the floor mats to the hospital on fire as well.

   The subject was treated and flown to an area hospital for further treatment of his injuries.  His condition is unknown at this time.

   The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time and referred to Calaveras County Behavioral Health.
