CHP: Alcohol causes crash on Hwy 120

On February 13, 2017 just after 9 PM, according to CHP, Colin Fenton Giles was driving a 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage eastbound on Hwy 120 near
Memorial Drive in Groveland at a high rate of speed, while allegedly under the influence alcohol.

Due to Giles impairment, he was unable to negotiate a left hand curve in the roadway and lost control of his vehicle.

The passenger side of Giles' vehicle subsequently struck a utility pole with so much force that it caused an intrusion into the vehicle of approximately three feet, per the report.

Giles was found unconscious in the driver's seat of the vehicle and was extricated by emergency personnel.

He was transported by ambulance to the Moccasin Lancing Zone where he was then flown to Modesto Memorial with major injuries.
