According to a CHP report on February 2, 2017 around 10:05 PM Anna Campo (31) of Columbia was dressed in dark clothing and walking east on Hwy 12, west of Lime Creek Road in Valley Springs, in the traffic lane.
. Aretha Verbeck (39) of Arnold was driving a 2003 Volvo on Hwy 12 at around 45 MPH as she was approaching Lime Creek Road.
Verbeck did not see Campo in the traffic lane until she was too close to avoid colliding with Campo. The right front corner and right mirror of Verbeck's vehicle struck Campo.
Campo suffered major injuries and was taken from the scene of the collision by American Legion Ambulance to a Phi Air-Med helicopter which took Campo to Memorial Hospital in Modesto for treatment of her injuries.
