Reckless Driving causes Hwy 4 motorcycle crash??

According to a CHP report on January 20, 2018 around 5:45 PM CHP was dispatched to a traffic collision on Hwy 4 east of Stallion Way in Angels Camp involving an 2011 SPCNS motorcycle .

Roger Campbell (53) of Copperopolis was observed driving his motorcycle recklessly on westbound Hwy 4 east of Stallion Way.

Campbell was reportedly passing other vehicles over the solid double yellow lines as Fred Ybarra (59) of Copperopolis was traveling eastbound in a 2000 Chevy.

As the two vehicles passed each other the front of the motorcycle impacted the left rear of the Chevy, causing the motorcycle to overturn and Campbell was ejected.

Campbell was flown by helicopter to Memorial Hospital in Modesto for treatment of major injuries. It was found that Campbell was wearing a non-DOT approved helmet during the collision, which offered minimal protection to his head and face during the collision.

The highway was completely blocked for approximately 39 minutes, resulting in minor traffic delays in the area.

One lane traffic was eventually opened and the entire highway was re-opened at approximately 6:40 PM.

At this time alcohol, and/or drugs are being considered as factors in this collision, along with dangerous passes being made by Campbell just prior to the collision, per CHP.
