CHP officer kills wife, injures store owner in Martell

   Around 10:45 PM September 3, 2018, 911 responded to a health food store in Martell where a shooting had been reported.

    Brad Wheat, an off-duty CHP shot the glass out of the door to get into the store, shot the store owner (not life threatening) and his wife.  His wife, Mary Wheat died at the scene.

     The officer then turned the gun on himself.  He was also found dead at the scene.   The store owner was taken to the hospital with a shoulder wound.
