CalFire Warns of Equipment, Vehicle Ignited Fires

Hand grinders, such as the one above
can send sparks flying into dry grass.
Last Friday, June 30, 2012 at around 4 PM a vegetation fire was ignited on Higdon Rd in West Point. The cause was a
hand grinder being used in an outside area.
The grass fire, which was extinguuished with only 1/2 acre burned, was put out by Columbia Air Attack, 2 CalFire Engine crews, a Pine Grove hand crew, West Point Engine and crew, and 2 water tenders, could have been much worse.
CalFire warns everyone to clear the area around where you may be working with equipment or engines of any kind and not to do that kind of work during the hot times of the day, after 7 AM and before 4 PM. Early in the morning and late in the evening the humidity is higher.
