Letter to the Editor:...About Gun Violence

   Dear Editor:

I'm hoping you'll print my letter. I called and spoke with you a few days ago about guns. Since the Newtown massacre, I have changed my opinion about the issue.

I was a longtime member of the NRA, because I believed they were a good organization, with America's best interests at heart.

I was only kidding myself. Seeing LaPierre out there taking the "Archie Bunker" role, actually promoting more guns, made me realize we may all be going insane.

Now I can see that the NRA is really nothing more than a lobby and promotion tool for the gun manufacturerers. They both make more money off the sale of each gun.

The NRA actually seems to promote the paranoia in people who already have some type of problems getting along with the world normally, and therefore fear everyone.

More guns, more guns, more guns! This is a business, and with no other true intent. They actually seem happy when there is a massacre. WHY?  Because they sell even more guns.

We all have rights! Can we drive tanks down the street?  Guns need to be controlled.

I know more than a few nuts right here in Calaveras County, and the Sheriff allows them to carry guns!!!

When will it stop? I am no longer a member of the NRA. Enough children killed for you yet? There is for me!

      Ex-NRA member in Calaveras County

Did you see the video of that Yeager guy who owns something called tactical response. Why are people who look and act that crazy allowed to be around guns at all?

Does that guy remind you of another skinhead that lives around here? He's crazy too. Is it shaving your head that makes you crazy or do you shave your head because you're crazy?

I am a current NRA member living in Calaveras County! At times I get tired of the continuous phone calls for donations from the NRA, but do understand!I do not, or will not blame the NRA for gun violence as I know the gun is not the criminal just as the car is not to blame for drunk driving! Gun bans or car bans are not the answer! People just need to be held accountable for their actions and not just given a slap on the wrist! It's called Responsibility!

I think gun owners should be forced to buy 2 million dollars in liability insurance every year and have a safe with no access to anyone else.

So, I have multiple million dollars in liability insurance, a safe for my personal use. Now what? Should I tell you what's in the safe, so you can determine if your choice is to try to rob me? What would be the consequences? The protection for the safe is a well trained guard dog or maybe multiple guard dogs. So now what?
