Letter to the Editor...About Postal Workers

   Dear Editor:

After reading the Op-Ed about all the problems with the Post Office, I contacted a couple of friends in the Bay Area who work there.

What they told me surprised me.  Did you know that the Post Office, their union and naturally, their employees are very political.

In a rural area like ours, where many people know each other, if a postal worker knows you are in the political party who opposes their getting raises, or money from the government, there is more trouble than in the larger areas.

Think about it the next time you are treated badly. Especially you business owners like us who are forced to deal with incompetence.

It comes from the upper management in the USPS and the APWU. Have you ever looked at their website. OMG!!!

And they are allowed to get away with it all the way up the line. There is absolutely NO oversight on their actions, whether illegal or just rudeness.

So forget it if you think things are going to get better, and thank the American Postal Workers Union and the upper level management, and then the United States Congress for allowing this to continue.

They do not care about making it pay for itself. The employees, according to my sources, just want to bide their time til they can get a decent retirement.

Therefore, the only true solution is to dissolve the Post Office. Put out to bid all of the work on a contract basis to a reputable company with oversight and a good business model.

Also, they need to eliminate the existing people at all management levels and not allow them to continue with the new contract firms.

Those people are not only unqualified for their positions, but do so little, and never handle problems to the customers satisfactions. NEVER!!

To the woman I saw who wanted to praise her postal workers. She is probably one of their mothers and definitely  not a business owner.

I agree with the person who said that the contract workers at the post office, (non-union) are very nice, appreciate their jobs and I have witnessed the bad treatment they get from union employees.

   Hope you publish this letter.

   Thank you,

    A.S. in Calaveras County

There is one other thing to consider. To try and appease the government they hire a lot of vets. I have read about mental health issues, alcoholism on the job, etc. due to this.

Why can't they just do their jobs and be nice to everyone? I knew they were political, but didn't know how bad it was!

Unless the government cleans house and gives it to a contractor, we are stuck with it, unfortunately. I do know a couple of contract workers. They are really nice and it's true that they are mistreated by the union workers.

Speaking of bad service. You know that the bag boy at the market doesn't smile and he said something bad about the produce clerk, who wasn't happy in the vegetable aisle because he didn't like the butcher, who had a beer in the afternoon at lunch, because he was upset at the baker who burnt the store manager's cookies on purpose, the reason being the manager didn't schedule enough hours for the bakers husband, who happens to be the bag boy.
True story. Really! ;)

Oh, that's good! Comparing a bag boy making minimum wage to a postal clerk! That's classic! Are his benefits and retirement guaranteed, too?
I remember when postal workers were all very respectable and you would never see the stuff going on you do today.

OMG! What a tough crowd we have here tonight! Satire. Humor. About mountain gossip. Get it? I making fun of YOU, dear reader. Not our hard working community. I'll leave that mudslinging to YOU.
Btw, the retail clerks union does have very good contracts for their membership. Bag person is just the start.
So now you've insulted the grocery employees, postal employees, who's next on yer target?

Uh, oh, now we have a retail checker all pissed off. I feel sorry for the baggers. They have a rotten job. Not the mean postal clerks though.

Hey OMG! It's only noon or can't you tell time, either!

There are still folks who use the postal service? Really?

Definitely not if we can help it. It's only the really old people who think it matters at all. They are just afraid of change, and so is the Poatal Union.

that is so true. part of the reason they are so nasty is because they know their end has nearly come. I never go to the post office unless I have to.

I'm a postal worker and hate every minute of it. Only took the job cause I couldn't find anything else at the time. If you were stuck in a small gross building all day, you would be irritable too.
