Vacation Rental Tax A Fiasco?

For months we have watched as the Planning Department has spent time writing and rewriting
rules and licensing legalities.

What a joke!  They finally realized that most of it is not legal and are now rewriting and planning on reintroducing for the umpth time because of legal challenges.

The County is so determined to tax (fee) people to the limit and over. CalFire just gave counties the idea and believe me, certain county officials are loving the idea.

Lake Tulloch homeowners are being treated with discrimination with this new ordinance. If they are going to have another tax or fee, it must apply to all rentals.

The entire licensing idea was ridiculous from the beginning.   Callaway insisted that it made SPECIAL so that her voters wouldn't be mad at her.

The homeowners associations should control their properties and not the county. Wasted time, and our tax money; picking on certain rentals is a horrible way to treat county residents.

Yahoooo, since you mention CalFire, the fire tax people have been served by the Jarvis folks.

Funny, three Copper Cove Homeowner's Association board members stated the HOA didn't want it.
I fell asleep, did the 3 amigos get up and speak for it or just two?

Why does the county have a Housing Element, if it doesn't care what's in it?
WWWWait, we have Spellman to the rescue. Now we get to hear about his real estate prowess. Oh, such a multi-talented individual. I wonder how many of his constituents he polled for his decision?

A piece of advise to Lake Tulloch transient renters. Do not rent on my street this summer. It will be your vacation from hell.

The Copper Cove HOA is filled with nothing but arrogant, self-served, cowards who believe their form of intimidation is the answer to all who disagree with them.
Not one HOA board member lives in a dangerous environment where low life transient renters trample all over the rights of full time, community serving residents.

I agree, this is not a good law.

There are a few problem regarding short term rentals, however, according to neighbors, most behave themselves.

There are a few owners that have a deep hatred for vacation people. The law seems to be driven by this influence. Problems with noise have been covered by the new noise ordinance and parking laws should be enforced, in my opinion. - Al Segalla

Yea, just a few problems...illegal rentals cramming 20 people into a three bedroom home with two bathrooms, and only 2800sq ft for 5-14 day vacations week after week. Not “weekenders”. This goes on for 6 months. Don't know about you, but when I rent a room at a hotel, I would like to think my family is safe from fire and any other emergencies.
Also these packed illegal rentals are over taxing our utility, water, and sewage infrastructure which was created for single family occupation They are running an illegal business without paying TOT taxes and business licenses. Creating safety issues by blocking roads and blocking boat launches. Transient renters have driven away legit homeowners and their families from use of their HOA facilities. All the while a HOA board coddles and encourages these illegal activities.
Hatred is such a strong word, maybe the owner of a certain Hotel (which she tanked all by her lonesome) could restrain her hatred and learn to respect permanent law abiding homeowners who are looking for ANY respect in defending THEIR PROPERTY RIGHTS. Lake Tulloch LOVES vacationers! There are camp grounds, cottages and lofts to rent from Castle and Cooke. Even that flea bag hotel could work in a pinch.
Oh did I mention noise? Nope!! Doesn't bother us!! When we bought near the lake over 10 yrs ago, we expected noise and heavy summer use. Not a bootleg Hotel Row on our street. Regulate the illegal transient rentals or just be done with them!

I see another reader shares my sentiment. This is about the Have's versus the "Have Not's" and they want to keep it that way "elitists"! They want more big brother for the Have Nots, yet rules don't apply to them, kind of like politicians & lobbyists. Well I suggest the elitists get there ducks in a row cause big brother is coming for them too!

Ordinance passed. Just goes to show what a "handful of disgruntled people" can accomplish when their opponents are too busy or too afraid to show up snd fight. Kudos to the winners!!

The three amigos and the 4 caballeros got their wish today. 3-2 vote in favor of the ordinance.
Now remember, all you homeowners who don't rent their property, the sky is the limit for all your family, friends, associates, etc to hoop it up this summer on Lake Tulloch in your vacation home. The law doesn't apply to you, you're not renting it. The noise ordinance will prevail. Be careful out there.
