Dear Sierra Sentinel:
Since I haven't seen you writing anything about it yet, I thought I would inform your readers that a shameful thing happened at the Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, April 8, 2014.
I was there for a different purpose, but most of the people in attendance at the beginning were some type of religious freaks; one with purple hair, a Murphys minister, a man with a German type accent who called people baby killers, baby murderers, etc, etc. etc.
When Supervisor Wright objected, Chair Ponte, an obvious religious nut, chastised him and allowed the man to continue ranting against any woman who believed in CHOICE!!
They were there to be praised by Chair Ponte, Supe Edson and Spellman, all who are also extreme religious wackos, in my opinion.
They were being honored for stopping abortions by running some type of religious interference organization. I have never in my life seen a government agency fall in line for something like this and I am embarrassed to be represented by these three officials.
Whatever happened to separation of Church and State? The resolution, read by Supervisor Spellman praised there activities and mentioned ONLY Christ and Christians as honorable people. At least that's what was clear to me.
One of the religious freaks stated that they only "offer pregnant girls an option". Now we all know that is bull!!! Fanatics, each and every one and against a woman's right to choose--in America!!!
Supervisor Callaway refused to vote at all, but Supervisor Wright stood up against the shameful exhibition and voted loudly "NO!"
It is obvious to me and many others present that if you are not in line with these three religious zealots Ponte, Spellman and Edson, that you are baby killers, murders, etc. I became sick to my stomach and had to leave the room for awhile.
I know you will not use my name, because I fear these people, including the Supervisors who support them, are dangerous! I will campaign against all three in their next elections!
Ashamed of Calaveras government and VERY AFRAID!!!

I haven't seen it yet. Is this true? I was not aware that Ponte was a religious extremist like Edson and Spellman, omg.
Wasn't there, but someone told me about the cast of wacko characters. Now that Calaveras County is only for the right wing what do the rest of us do. Certainly not support the three supervisors who voted for it.
You've got to be kidding. Now I've got to watch it. Anti womens rights?? This is nothing but a hick county. no wonder they all make fun of us.
I personally don't believe in abortion, but I would NEVER try to influence anyone else, especially young girls. These people are awful.
How could this ever have been put on the agenda. These three Supes will pay for this.
I watched it on tv last night. never seen anything like it. Those people are nuts! Ponte allowed it and allowed that German guy to call Chris Wright names. I was so disgusted I could hardly sleep!
You are right. This is POnte's fault. They are now going to try and take away women's rights. We have to get rid of the three of them.
What has happened to this county? How did we ever elect such crazy people?
Please everyone stay tuned for a project in the works started by local community members to provide REAL help to young women! The Door of Hope is an insideous religiously-based fear mongering organization and they must be stopped!
I agree! Haven't heard of a new group. Instead of instilling guilt in a poor young girl, we need Planned Parenthood or something like it.
What does this have anything to do with county issues? These clowns are just as bad as the Angels City council. They think they are God and can control everyone's personal rights. The county supes need to be recalled. Let's get the ball rolling folks!
I would sign a recall for Ponte and Edson. They are terrible Supervisors. Spellman is out this year on his own, so we don't have to worry about him.
Me too!! Women have to have some rights!! Religion and government do NOT mix!! They need to leave their right wing religions at home!!
It should be important for everyone to remember that Chris Wright and Merita Callaway were very much AGAINST this resolution! Much respect for the both of them for standing up for women's rights when they were outnumbered!
Are you for sure? Callaway simply abstained, which is like what Spellman did about hunting bears with dogs last year. That's like saying its ok, but she doesn't want anyone mad at her. She must be catering to the Hedrricks, who were in the audience.
Callaway sways with the wind. No moral compass just always playing the angles to try to get elected.
But isn't she the pastor of that Halloween type church or something? You're probably right, tho.
