UPDATE at 9:39 AM: According to a CHP press release the San Andreas office received information of a stolen vehicle being driven in the Arnold/White Pines area.
Multiple agencies responded, including CHP Air Operations, Calaveras County Sheriff, and Angels Camp Police Department.
The vehicle, a black Toyota Tundra Pickup was reported stolen from Murphys to the CHP in San Andreas on August 25, 2013.
Prior to our arrival, information was received that the driver of the stolen vehicle was off-loading several weapons.
As a perimeter was being established, the suspect escaped. The investigation is continuing and the vehicle was recovered abandoned.
A large cache of rifles and ammunition was found and is currently being processed. CHP is seeking any witness information regarding this incident and may be contacted at 754-3541 or 943-8600 after business hours.
August 29, 2013: A pursuit of armed suspects in a stolen vehicle had the Calaveras County Sheriff's department assisting CHP yesterday afternoon.
The suspects apparently dumped firearms from the vehicle. and the suspects were not located. According to Sgt Hewitt of the Sheriff's department, they are processing evidence and attempting to discover the identities of the suspects.
