Why Yosemite worries about it's old giants!

Ordinarily, forest officials say fire is not very harmful to the giant sequoias, who have seen fire
many times over their millennia.

However, USFS officials say that with the Rim Fire fast approaching the two groves of Giant Sequoias, the Merced and the Tuolumne, fear is that the trees may have met their match

Anyone who has lived in the Redwoods knows that Redwoods are wet and the bark is thick, especially on the Giants.

However the Rim Fire heat is not like anything the USFS has seen before and they are trying everything they know how to save the iconic trees.  Sadly, we'll soon know!
