Rim Fire Update August 26, 2013

USFS photo
At 10 PM last night, the USFS updated the Rim Fire numbers to 143,980 acres burned but still
only 7% contained.

As usual, our Mother Lode is again on national news for the bad things that happen. Even CNBC sent a reporter to Tuolumne City to report that San Francisco's water and electric supply were now in jeopardy due to the Hetchy Hetchy (yes, that is what he called it) being in danger.

At Yosemite, after losing around 17,000 acres within the park so far, everything possible is being done to save the Giant Sequoias there.

Military tanker planes have been brought in from as far as the East Coast to help battle the Rim Fire. While many buildings have been lost, only a handful of homes have been destroyed.

Many thousands are threatened as this fire spreads toward the Hwy 108 corridor. We have heard many comments that this could have been averted, had the USFS called in the massive plane attack the first day. Most tend to agree.
